How to Make Galaxy Easter Eggs
Want to learn how to make Galaxy Dyed Easter Eggs? Then this easy step by step guide is for you. Galaxy dyed Easter eggs are made with regular food coloring and a few other supplies to make beautiful easter eggs kids and adults will having fun making.
Supplies Needed for Galaxy Easter Eggs
Boiled Eggs
Blue, Purple, and Pink Liquid Food Dye
Coffee Filters
White Craft Paint
Small Rubber Bands
Small Spray Bottle
¼ Cup White Vinegar
Old Toothbrush (Hard is best)
Rubber Gloves (optional)
How to Make Galaxy Easter Eggs
Hard Boil your eggs and let them cool. You can even hard boil your eggs in your Air-Fryer!
Place the vinegar in the small spray bottle.
Wrap each egg, point end down, in a coffee filter, and use the rubber band to secure it at the top.
Using rubber gloves if desired, so the dye doesn’t get all over your hands, put about three drops of each color on each egg covered in the coffee filter. The dye will spread across the filter and this is good!
Note – It’s a must that you use liquid dye and not gel, oil, etc. It doesn’t work the same.
Spritz the eggs with the vinegar and then leave them to sit for 5 minutes.
Unwrap the eggs and then use the dye-soaked filters to pat any white spots remaining on the eggs. Let sit for another 5 minutes to dry a bit.
Put the paint in a small dish and dab the bristles of the toothbrush in the paint and use your thumb or finger to flick the bristles so that they splatter the eggs. I usually went around the egg twice.
*Note – Acrylic paint is not edible and egg shells are porous, which means the eggs could absorb some of the craft paint chemicals. You can leave the paint splatter off if you don’t feel comfortable eating the eggs with the paint splatter. You can also use hollowed-out egg shells or craft eggs for this project. Do what you feel is comfortable for you and your family. As an alternative, you can use edible food glitter or edible gold leaf instead of the paint for a glitter/star look. Just spray the glitter or attache the gold leaf before the food coloring dries.
Let them sit to dry for about 15 minutes or overnight and enjoy!
Tips & Tricks for Making Galaxy Hard-Boiled Eggs
Can Galaxy Easter Eggs be Eaten? If you are using hard-boiled eggs, yes your galaxy eggs can be eaten. Please note that egg shells are porous and craft paint is not edible, so the eggs can absorb some of the craft paint chemicals. If you are going to consume the eggs you can leave the craft paint off. The craft paint used is very minimal, but do what is best for your family.As an alternative, you can use edible food glitter or edible gold leaf instead of the paint for an extra glitter/star/galaxy feel. Just spray the glitter or attache the gold leaf before the food coloring dries.
If you refrigerate your eggs after you dye them, make sure to let them sit out and dry for about 20-30 minutes, outside the fridge, before handling them or they will dye your hands.
How to Store Galaxy Easter Eggs? Once your eggs are dry/set (about 20-30 minutes) you can eat them or store them in your refrigerator like you normally would hard-boiled eggs.
A hard toothbrush was way better than a soft one when it came to flicking the paint.
This recipe calls for liquid food coloring. This recipe did not test gel, oil, or other types of food coloring. If you choose to use those your results may not be the same.
Can I use Brown Eggs for Galaxy Easter Eggs? You can try! I did not test that out, but it should work. Your coloring would more than likely end up darker.
How Much Food Coloring Do I Need? 1 pack should do the trick for a few dozen hard boiled eggs and you should have food coloring left over. A little goes a long way, but when it comes to kids and crafting you can never go wrong with picking up an extra pack of food coloring, especially if multiple kids will be dying eggs and fighting over the food coloring bottles.
