Chamoy Rim Dip

Sharing is caring!

Chamoy Rim Dip goes by a few names on social media like Tamarind Chamoy Rimmer Paste, Chamoy Paste, and Chamoy Rim Paste. Made popular on TikTok Chamoy Rim Dip is a sticky, sweet, fruit, and tart sauce that is a great addition to drinks like micheladas, mixed drinks like margaritas, spiked seltzers, beer, and even goes nicely with agua frescas.

While Chamoy Rimmer is usually used with alcoholic drinks, it could also be used on non-alcoholic drinks like flavored seltzers, sodas, and agua frescas. You can even use the chamoy rim paste on Mexican fruit cups or dulce enchilados.

Chamoy Rim Paste

When making your Chamoy Rim Paste you can give it an extra fruity flavor like Mango or Watermelon or keep it to just the traditional tamarind flavor.

What is Chamoy Paste?

Chamoy rim paste is a sauce used to give drinks some extra flavor. Similar to a salt or spice rimmer on a drink, like a margarita, the chamoy paste is used around the rim of a drink, and each time you take a sip you get the taste of the chamoy rim paste which is sweet, salty, fruity, and tart. It even has a tiny bit of spice to it, if you are sensitive to spice.

What is Chamoy?

Chamoy is a savory sauce or condiment used in Mexico. It’s typically used in Mexican fruit cups or on the rim of a cup for a drink called a Michelada. It pairs nicely with fruit and is made from a combination of lime, chile peppers, and fruit such as apricot or mango. It’s sweet, spicy, and a little bit sour.

Where to buy Chamoy – You can find Chamoy in most Mexican grocery stores and sometimes in your local grocery store like Walmart. You can also grab it on Amazon.

What is Chamoy Rim Paste Made Of?

Chamoy rim paste is made with:

Chamoy – The base of the sauce. Chamoy is a fruity and tart sauce made with fruit, lime, and chile peppers.

Tajin – Tajin is a Mexican seasoning made of chile peppers, lime, and salt. Traditionally used on fruit.

Pulparindo – A Mexican candy made from Tamarind. Tamarind is a tropical fruit and it has a sweet and tart flavor.

Sugar – Gives some added sweetness, but it can be substituted with Lucas Candy in a flavor of your choosing.

Water – Helps to thin the paste out so it’s not too thick or hard.

Lime Juice – Adds some tang.

How to Store Chamoy Rim Dip

Once your chamoy rim dip has cooled store it in an airtight for up to 4 weeks at room temp.

Chamoy Rim Dip does not need to be refrigerated. You can refrigerate it, but it’s not necessary. If you choose to store it in the fridge pull it out 1-2 hours before you plan to use it so it can soften up.

How to Soften Chamoy Rim Dip

Did your chamoy rim dip get too hard or thick? You can easily soften it by placing it in a microwave-safe bowl and adding 1-2 tablespoons of water. Microwave for 20 seconds and stir well. If still hard or too thick repeat the process. The extra water will help to soften it up and make it runnier.

What Drinks Can Chamoy Rim Dip be Used For

You can use any drinks you like, but here are my favorite ways to use Chamoy rimmer:

  • Chamoy Margarita – Instead of salt use the Chamoy Rim Dip
  • Micheladas
  • Hard Seltzer like White Claw, Truly, Topo Chio, Jose Cuervo, Bud Light, and whichever is your favorite one.
  • Beer
  • Wine Coolers
  • Hard Lemonades or Teas
  • Any drink you think it would be good on

It’s also great drizzled on fruit or gummy candy.

Tips and Tricks for Using Chamoy Paste

Wash your cans before applying the chamoy paste. Some can tops can be dirty and you don’t want to transfer that into the sauce. Wash with dish soap and cool water, rinse well, and dry completely.

Change the flavor of the chamoy sauce with different flavors of pulparindo. There is Mango, Watermelon, and Xtra Spicy.

Instead of sugar use Lucas Candy. It comes in Watermelon, Mango, Chamoy, Sour Green Apple, and Cherry flavors.

Make sure the surface you are dipping the chamoy paste into is dry. If the surface it wet the sauce will not stick.

How to Make Chamoy Rim Dip

To make Chamoy Rim Dip you are going to need:

  • Chamoy
  • Sugar
  • Lime Juice
  • Pulparindo Candy
  • Water
  • Tajin Seasoning

How to Make Chamoy Rim Dip

Place your chamoy and lime juice into a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Bring to a boil and turn heat to a simmer.

Add your Pulparindo candy to the skillet. I broke mine up into pieces, but it’s not necessary. Stir the pulparindo candy into the chamoy and stir until the pulparindo is fully melted. This can take 7-8 minutes. Make sure to constantly stir so your sauce/candy doesn’t burn.

Once your pulparindo candy is melted add the sugar, tajin, and water. Mix well.

Simmer for 2-3 minutes and remove from the heat.

Let cool. Your chamoy paste will thicken as it cools.

Store at room temp until ready to enjoy.

Once you are ready to enjoy, dip your can or glass into the rim paste and then sprinkle with some more tajin. Enjoy!
