Easter peeps fruit kabobs are an easy and delicious Easter fruit recipe. Fruit Kabobs are the perfect Easter dessert recipe for kids. All you need are skewers, fruit, and marshmallow peeps!

When it comes to holiday desserts, like Easter desserts, they’re often filled with tons of sugar, chocolate, and are overall unhealthy. I try to sprinkle in healthier dessert options when I can and adding fruit is a delicious way to do that. Kids love fruit. It’s sweet, colorful, and there are so many ways you can serve it up. Peeps fruit kabobs are a healthy Easter dessert recipe.

Peeps Fruit Kabobs

To make our Easter fruit Kabobs you only need a few items like Bunny Peeps, Fresh Fruit, and Skewers. You can cut your fruit yourself or totally cheat and use the store-bought pre-cut fruit.

How to Wash Fruit with a DIY Vinegar Fruit Wash

I always wash all of my fruit before our family eats it. So I’ll do that same with the fruit for the kabobs. If the fruit has thick skin like an orange or pineapple I don’t wash that since you’ll be cutting it away. However, apples, berries, and grapes all get washed.

To wash my fruit I place it in a large bowl with cool water and do 1 cup of vinegar for every 4 cups of water. This is a vinegar fruit wash. Let the fruit soak for 15 minutes. Drain, rinse and dry the fruit off. You’ll want your fruit to be dry before adding to the skewers because if it’s wet it will make the peeps nasty.

What Fruit to Use for Fruit Kabobs

I love recipes that can be customized to fit your family’s likes and needs. Fruit kabobs are one of those recipes. You can use any fruit that will fit on a skewer. I like to add a rainbow of colors for rainbow fruit skewers, but use whatever your kids will enjoy. Here are some fruit shish kabobs fruit ideas:

  • Apples (these can turn brown, see below)
  • Banana (these can turn brown, see below)
  • Grapes
  • Kiwi
  • Melon – Watermelon, Cantelope, Honey Dew
  • Berries – Raspberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, or Strawberry
  • Pineapple
  • Oranges
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Mango
  • Star Fruit
  • Dragon Fruit

How to Keep Apple and Bananas from Turning Brown

Fruit like apples and bananas will start to turn brown if you add them to a kabob. To prevent this you can give them a lemon wash for fruit. You’ll mix 1 part lemon juice with 3 parts of water. Soak the sliced fruit in the mix for about 5 minutes. Drain, rinse, and dry. Now they’re ready to enjoy and should hold off on turning brown for a while.

How to Store Fruit Kabobs

Can I make fruit kabobs a day ahead? Peep Kabobs can be made up to 12 hrs before consuming, but I try to make them as close to eating as possible. The longer the peeps sit with the fruit the sugar on them starts to melt a little bit.

Store your peep kabobs in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also store them on a tightly wrapped tray covered with plastic wrap. Peep kabobs can be stored for about 24 hours before they start “melting”. The wetter the type of fruit you use (like melon or pineapple) the quicker the peeps will start to wear down.

Can I freeze fruit kabobs? It is not recommended to freeze fruit kabobs. Due to the nature of the thawing process, freezing and thawing will likely result in a watery fruity mess.
