Target Drive Up is My New Favorite Thing and it Should Be Yours Too!

Sharing is caring!

Let just start by saying that this is in no way sponsored, I just L-O-V-E Target and want to share easy ways for moms to shop. Target Drive Up is a sanity life saver y’all! If you’re wondering where Target Drive Up is available around Denver or How Target Drive Up works then read to the end.

I learned about Target Drive Up a while back and didn’t pay it much attention. One of the best things about shopping at Target is browsing the aisles and letting Target tell you what you’re going to go broke on, am I right? It was one of those things that I registered in the back of my mind and saved for a later date. Well, that later date showed up a few weeks ago when I needed some items for a project I was working on and didn’t want to get dressed, didn’t want to drag my kids into the store, and it was snowing. It was a toss up between dragging the kids into the store, Instacart (which didn’t have everything I needed) or Target Pick Up (which is not the same at Target Drive Up). Then I remembered about Target Drive Up…

I was on the Target website filling my cart with items and cursing because WHERE WAS THE DRIVE UP OPTION?! Well DUH JAMIE, you have to use the Target app. So here’s how it works:

You’ll need to use the Target app (which is free). You can download it from the iTunes store or google play store, but you should already have this app on your phone if you’re a Target shopper because of Cartwheel. Browse around the app and find the items you’re looking for, pick your color, size, ect and hit the button at the bottom where it says add to cart. You’ll want to hit the drive up option, but it’s only available at select locations for the time being. Don’t fret though, Target is working on adding more locations all the time! Add your item to cart and repeat until you’re broke and have everything you don’t need from Target. You could also just add the item to your cart and select the drive up option from the cart screen, whatever works for you.

Place your order and Target will have it ready within 2 hours. I’ve used Target Drive Up 3 times now. The first time my order was ready in 30 minutes, the second time 20 minutes, and this last time it was ready in an hour, but after talking with the associate who brought me my items it seems he had a hard time finding 2 of the items I needed and that’s why it took him so long for the order to be ready. (No I did not complain, he mentioned the shoes I wanted were a pain for him to find. I apologized, we laughed, and we both went on our way). When your item is ready you’ll check your target app and at the top main screen you’ll see an box about your Drive Up order. Hit it and let Target know you’re on your way. You can also put in your car style and color so they know which car to go to when you get there.

Once you arrive you’ll open your app again and hit “I’m Here”. The associate will come out with your goodies within 2 minutes and they’ll need to scan the barcode on your app. You sign their handheld thingy, and you’re all done. All the times I’ve used this service the associate is at my car under a minute after I check in. The best part about all of this, besides not having to shop with my kids, is that Target Drive Up is completely FREE.

Let’s recap, sha’ll we. Target, the place we all love so much, will shop for you so you don’t have to drag your kids through the store and then they bring all your items to your car. Best thing ever!

Here’s a few things to know:

The item must be in stock at the Target store where you want to use Drive Up. If the item ends up not being available (this did happen to me) you will get an email saying the item is not available and to 1. pick another store to pick up your item at 2. Have Target ship the item 3. Cancel the item. When my item was unavailable it was also unavailable at all the other stores and was not available for shipping, so I had my item cancelled.

From what I can gather, you cannot get a lot of food items. If you want to pick up some meat for dinner and other perishables, it’s not an option. I was able to get drinks, like juice and soda.

Target Navy Floral Bedding

Cream Birdsong Comforter Set – Threshold // Vintage Wash Chambray Sheet Set – Threshold (Grey) // Channel Stitch Velvet Quilt – Threshold (Navy) // The Velvet quilt was out of stock at my store so I replaced it with  All Over Stitched Chambray Quilt – Threshold (blue)

This is a great option to use if Target is having an online only sale. Like their sale for 40% off bedding and bath items that it currently going on. Yes, I did order new bedding with the Drive Up feature and was able to get my items the same day and for 40% off. WINNING. (hint: I got this amazing set above, swooon!)

You cannot use Cartwheel with it since it’s considered an online purchase.

You must pick up your order within 2 days, but you can extend it for 1 extra day by going into the Target app or Target.com and hitting the option under your order.

I can’t seem to find any hours that this is limited to, so I am going to assume it’s available during normal Target business hours.

I can’t find a list of stores with Target Drive Up, so you’ll have to play around in the app and select different stores in your area to see if it’s available.

I had no idea Target is doing this, I'm going to see if the stores in our area offer this service. I know some seniors who would want to utilize this option!

Neat idea! I don't have a car so I wont be using the service personally, but it sounds like a great option for parents with kids and/or people with medical conditions that make it difficult for them to leave their vehicle.

Interesting service, thanks for sharing! I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
