National Learn to Swim Day + The Importance of Teaching Kids to Swim! #SwimWays

Sharing is caring!

My kids love the water. They’re like little fish or mermaids when it comes to water and they have no fear. Anytime they see a pool they want to run and jump right in, but they’re still learning how to swim. With summer coming up and hot days on the horizon I know we’ll be spending a lot of days splashing around at our local pool and splash park and I always want to make sure my kids are safe, so teaching them how to swim is really important to me. Since things can go from fun to dangerous real fast in a swimming pool (or around any water) I make sure my kids know not to get into a pool without an adult, keep my eyes on them at all times, and we’re enrolling all of them in swimming classes again this summer. They started taking some last summer, but it got interrupted by our move. With summer break almost here we’ll have the time to put them back into lessons so they can learn how to swim and be safe in/around water.

While they learn how to swim I like to use pool products that can help them be safe, like the ones SwimWays offers. I’ve been using SwimWays products since our oldest daughter was a toddler and I continue to use them with all our kids. I’m excited to share with you the Baby Spring Float in the next few weeks. Our toddler will be using it this summer when we spend time in the pool and you can find them at my favorite store, Target!

Each year, the 3rd Saturday of May is National Learn to Swim Day. SwimWays is a leader in helping children learn to swim and promoting water safety as evidenced by the 6th annual National Learn to Swim Day on May 20, 2017. SwimWays started National Learn to Swim Day in 2012 and is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety and the importance and benefits of learning to swim. SwimWays encourages parents and caregivers nationwide to celebrate in their own way. As pools open across the U.S. in May it is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of water safety are teaching children to swim.

Pool Safety Tips:

1. Never leave a child unattended in or near water.

2. Teach children how to swim.

3. Teach children to stay away from drains.

4. Ensure all pools and spas – both in your backyard and any public pool you may visit – have compliant drain covers.

5. Install proper barriers, covers and alarms on and around your pool and spa.

6. Know how to perform CPR on children and adults.
