Super Mario Brothers Snack Mix

Ingredients

Popcorn – Because you can’t have a snack mix without popcorn.

Pretzels – Another yummy addition to any snack or trail mix.

Muddy Buddies – Turned Green and Red to represent Mario and Luigi.

Peach Rings – To represent Princess Peach

Whoppers – To represent cannon balls that the cannons shoot.

Cheese Balls – They represent the fireballs that the fire flowers shoot.

Airhead Xtreme – To represent rainbow road

Gold Sixlets – These represent gold coins. You can use chocolate gold coins, but I didn’t want to add something that needed to be unwrapped.

M&M’s – I picked out the red, green, and yellow colors to match the Mario Bros theme.

Mario Brothers Fruit Snacks – This will be a “seasonal” item more than likely. These are released around the newest movie coming out and might not be available later on, but they come in Mario shapes and are perfect for the snack mix.

Candy Bananas – To represent the bananas in Mario Kart.

Mario Bros Candy – I didn’t add this to my mix because I found them after making it, but you can if you want something mushroom-shaped. There is also a gold coin candy. And even bullet shaped candy.

How to Make Mario Bros Snack Mix

There are 2 parts to making this snack mix. First, you’ll need to make the red and green muddy buddies and then we’ll combine everything together.

To make your colorful muddy buddies you’ll need:

  • Chex – 4 cups (I use rice, use any kind you like)
  • Candy Melts – red and green – 1 cup each
  • Powdered Sugar – 1/3 cup

Place one color of your candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl and melt per package directions.

I like to use a Ziploc bag for the next steps for easier cleanup, but a bowl works well too.

Place Chex into a Ziploc bag and combine with the melted candy melts until coated well.

Pour powder sugar into a Ziploc bag and gently mix well until the Chex are all nicely coated.

Pour the mix onto a parchment or wax paper lined baking sheet in an even, single layer and let them “dry”. This takes about 10 mins. You can place them in the fridge to set quicker.

Now let’s assemble our snack mix.

I don’t really measure out my ingredients for this.

Pop your popcorn, unless using already-made popcorn. Let it cool so the hot popcorn doesn’t melt any chocolate.

Mix all your ingredients in a large bowl.

Store in an airtight container for 3-5 days.

Enjoy!
