How to Cut Watermelon Stick or Watermelon Fries

You can call these watermelon fries or watermelon sticks. Whatever you choose to call them this is how to cut watermelon sticks.

Cut the watermelon in half. Place the cut side down on a cutting board. Cut straight down to remove the rind and make it into a square watermelon piece. Once the rind is removed, cut ⅓ to ½ inch slices down. Then cut thin slices from each piece.

Tips for Picking the Perfect Watermelon

  • Make sure the watermelon feels heavy for its size. (you want it to be juicy)
  • Pick a dull-looking watermelon. Too shiny – it’s probably not ripe.
  • A nice yellow spot – the brighter the yellow, the longer it’s been on the vine sweetening up!
  • Knock on it! If there is a nice hollow sound, it will probably be ripe and juicy. If it is a dull sound, it is probably over ripe.

How to store watermelon sticks

Store the watermelon separate from the dip. You can store both of them in airtight containers in the refrigerator for a few days. Do not freeze the yogurt dip.
