Chocolate Covered Strawberries FAQs:

How should I store the dipped strawberries? Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. They’re fine to eat as long as the tops aren’t brown and the strawberry isn’t mushy.

What if I don’t have melting chocolate? If you don’t have melting chocolate, you can use 1 cup of white chocolate chips plus 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil. White candy melts can also be used, but they are usually a different flavor than white chocolate.

What if the chocolate starts to harden? If the melted chocolate starts to get too thick to work with, just stick it in the microwave for another 30 seconds and stir. Instead of using the microwave to melt the chocolate, you can melt it using a double boiler or a bowl over simmering water to prevent the chocolate from hardening.

Tips for making Chocolate dipped strawberries

1 cup of chocolate will be enough to cover 12 strawberries, however, using an additional amount can help with dipping the strawberries deep into the chocolate.

To have better control, it’s easiest to use a spoon to add the sprinkles onto the chocolate instead of dipping.

It works to hold the stem while dipping, but if the stems keep wanting to come out, holding the very top of the strawberry itself will work since that part isn’t being dipped.

If you’re going to transport the strawberries on a hot day, it’s a good idea to refrigerate them for 30-60 minutes before leaving the house.

Ingredients for Patriotic Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • 1 pound strawberries, washed and dried well (tops on)
  • 1 cup white melting chocolate, broken into pieces or candy melts (I used a 4-ounce white baking bar)
  • Assortment of red, white and blue sprinkles

How to Make Red White Blue Strawberries

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the white chocolate pieces into a medium microwaveable bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time. Continue until all the chocolate pieces are completely melted (don’t overheat).

Pour a few tablespoons of each kind of sprinkle into small, separate bowls.

Hold the strawberry by the top and dip into the melted chocolate, leaving the top third uncovered.

Alternatively, you can spoon the melted chocolate onto the bottom ⅔ of the strawberry. Gently shake off any excess.

Immediately spoon the sprinkles carefully onto the bottom third of the strawberry, leaving a plain white center band.

Place the dipped strawberries on the tray lined with the parchment paper. Let them sit for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate sets. After the chocolate is set, place the dipped berries on a tray and serve. Enjoy your easy strawberry dessert for summer!
