When I was pregnant with our daughter I would often wonder what her hair would be like. Since I have thick wavy/curly hair and her daddy is a African American I knew it would be some kind of mix and I knew that I had to learn how to take care of it properly early on so that her hair would look nice. As a baby her hair has a little bit of a wave to it and as she grew into a toddler her curls started to really shine. As she’s grown her curls have gotten curlier, hair longer, and hair thicker and I am always on the lookout for hair products that will control and enhance the beauty in her curls like the products available from Dove’s new Dove Quench Absolute line.
Sometime last year I started to notice that she wasn’t loving her curls. She would make comments that she wanted straight hair, or blonde hair like the princesses, and a few other comments. As a mom is made me sad to see that she didn’t love her curls because I think they’re so gorgeous, but I knew I had to do something to help her love her curls and since I know that most little girls get their self confidence from their moms, I really had to step up and help her love those curls. I started telling her how pretty her dark hair was and how it was hers and only hers and how I was so jealous of her pretty curls and I wish I had them. I started noticing that it was working and now when you ask her what color hair she wants, she says she loves her dark hair and she loves her crazy curls.
Thankfully Dove has also set out on a mission to help girls love their curls with their #LoveYourCurls campaign because only 4 in 10 little girls with curly hair think their hair is beautiful and only 10% of women in the U.S. with curly hair feel proud of their hair. So Dove Hair launched the “Love Your Curls” campaign to encourage women to celebrate their curls and inspire future generations to do the same. Girls are more likely to feel beautiful and proud of their hair if people around them do, so it’s our job to help them love their curls and be proud of them.
To help curls and woman love their curls Dove launched the new Love Your Curls book which is a poetic tribute to curly hair. Love Your Curls is inspired by thousands of stories from women with curly hair. The real stories from real women inspired the poems in the book. and is written by best-selling author, Taiye Selasi and illustrated by Annick Poirier. It’s intended to represent and inspire curly girls of all ages. And you can get a free, personalized copy of Love Your Curls! We’ve started using Dove’s new Quench Absolute line and love it. It makes our daughters curls really shine. Her hair is so soft, curls defined, and they have a much smoother look to them now. I love when I find products that work with her hair and these do a great job!
