Fisher-Price Soothe & Glow Seahorse Poses Risk to Kids!

Sharing is caring!

I follow a few of the local news stations in Denver on facebook. It’s a way for me to stay connected on important things that are going on locally and nationally without watching the news because the news tends to be depressing. Since I’m on facebook a good majority of the day for blog stuff and personal use it’s only makes sense to get my news from it as well. When I was scrolling through facebook this morning something caught my eye, a big picture of the Fisher-Price Soothe & Glow Seahorse. Normally I would have kept scrolling, BUT we have this same seahorse in our home for the baby. I promptly clicked the link and read through the article to find out many people have complained of their Seahorse feeling warm/hot to the touch, and upon opening it smoke being released and the plastic inside melting. The same people have complained to Fisher-Price and all they’ve said is to send it in for a replacement. This is not acceptable.

Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Seahorse

As a mom this is very disconcerting. Our seahorse doesn’t get used much since our little guy is only 3 months old and he doesn’t play with toys too much YET. He’s just now getting to the point where toys are starting to interest him a little more and the 3 year old does like to turn it on for him from time to time when he’s laying on his play mat. I can see this toy getting used a lot more in the near future and it outrages me that this toy can possibly burn one of my kids, start smoking, melting, or heaven forbid catch on fire. Fisher-Price is a brand I remember playing with when I was a kid. It’s a brand I TRUST to buy toys for my kids and the fact that they’ve been informed of this problem and are doing nothing about it outrages me. I shouldn’t have to worry about a light-up and signing Seahorse possibly hurting my kids. For now this toy is going into hiding and I hope Fisher-Price takes this concern more seriously. I hope it doesn’t take a little one getting hurt before they do something…

Even reviews on Amazon are stating problems…

Oh my gosh, that's plain crazy. What is fisher price thinking. My niece had this when she was a young baby and absolutely loved her seahorse. I'm glad she didn't get one of these smoking sea horses.

This is concerning. If more than ONE complaint about fire/smoke/heat hazard is spoken of, FP should take note and do the right thing. Once could be a fluke, but multiple is downright scary.
