Easter Rice Krispy Treats

Rice krispy treats are always a hit for any holiday and this recipe uses just 4 ingredients, is ready in minutes, and can be customized to fit any holiday or occasion with different sprinkles. You can make these a day in advance if needed, all you need to do is store them in an airtight container.

Ingredients for Rice Krispy Treats

Mini Marshmallows – Mini marshmallows are easier to melt than the larger ones and you could even use flavored or colored ones if you desire.

Rice Krispy Cereal – I like to stick with the name brand Rice Krispies Cereal, but you can use any brand. Make sure to get the gluten free version if you are making these in an allergy-friendly way.

Butter – When making these the regular way I like to use salted butter, but if you’re making them allergy friendly you would use dairy-free butter, like plant-based butter or coconut oil.

Easter Sprinkle Mix – I use the Walmart brand of Easter Sprinkles, but you can use any kind you like. Just make sure they’re allergy friendly!

Nonstick Cooking Spray – Nonstick cooking spray is a must-have when making krispy treats. This helps to keep them from sticking to the pan so they’re easier to get out and enjoy.

How to Make Easter Rice Krispy Treats

Spray a 10 x 7 pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Combine the butter and marshmallows in a large mixing bowl and place in the microwave. Heat on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Immediately stir well until the butter is fully mixed into the marshmallows.

Quickly add the cereal and mix well until the cereal is fully covered.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Spread even and press down to compact the mixture.

Cover in sprinkles and lightly press on the sprinkles to press them against the marshmallow so they stay stuck.

Cover and let sit for about 3 hours or until hardened and easily cut without being gooey.

Tips and Tricks for making Rice Krispy Treats

The sprinkles I link to specifically are free of any contaminants. So, it’s important to read the back of your ingredients to ensure they’re safe, even if it’s not listed in the ingredients.

The rice cereal I link to is easier to find, but you can use the name-brand gluten-free rice krispies as well if you can find them.

I use the name-brand mini marshmallows because they don’t have contaminants.

You can use other size pans, if desired. For example, if you want a thinner treat, use a bigger pan.

Don’t overheat the marshmallows or they will taste burnt or turn out chewier than normal.

Rice Krispy Treats will stay fresh for about 2-3 days at room temperature in an airtight container.

Rice Krispy Treat Add-Ins

Food Coloring – Add a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallow mixture to give your Krispy treats a fun color.

Candy – Add chopped candy like M&M’s or Robin Eggs with the rice krispies for a fun twist.

Drizzle your crispy treats with melted candy melts for a fun pop of color.

Nut Butters – Add 1/2 of peanut butter (or another nut butter) or Nutella to the marshmallow mix and melt together. (This would not be peanut allergy friendly)

Marshmallows – Mix extra marshmallows in with the krispy cereal so there are chunks of marshmallows inside.
