Quaker is a brand my family happens to LOVE, from their instant oatmeal for quick breakfasts on the go to their granola bars and cookies that the toddler loves for snack time. We always have one or more of their products on hand at any time because oatmeal is healthy snack and meal option. Did you know that a bowl of oatmeal made with milk has calcium from both, but also fiber and iron from the oatmeal and protein, potassium and vitamins D, A and B12 from milk?

Milk and Oatmeal go together like bread and butter and there are so many different ways to combine them that the possibilities are endless. Of course there is the traditional bowl of oatmeal, but have you considered muffins, cookies, or even scones? I wanted to combine the two with a new twist and whipped up a batch of Cinnamon Bun Scones while the toddler was in school and when she got home she had a hot, but protein packed snack waiting for her.

Cinnamon Bun Scones

  • 3/4 Cup(s) Powdered Sugar
  • 3 to 4 Teaspoon(s) Tropicana Pure Premium® orange juice, Dole® 100% orange juice or milk
  • 2 Cup(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1 Cup(s) Quaker® Oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
  • 1/4 Cup(s) + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon(s) Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon(s) Salt
  • 8 Tablespoon(s) (1 stick) butter or margarine, chilled and cut into pieces
  • 3/4 Cup(s) whole or 2% milk
  • 1 Egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 Teaspoon(s) vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup(s) toasted chopped pecans
  • 2 Teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
PREPARATION:Heat oven to 425°F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. In large bowl, combine flour, oats, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder and salt; mix well. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In small bowl, combine milk, egg and vanilla; blend well. Add to dry ingredients all at once; stir with fork or rubber spatula until dry ingredients are moistened. In small bowl, combine remaining 2 tablespoons granulated sugar with the pecans and cinnamon; mix well. Sprinkle evenly over dough in bowl; gently stir batter to swirl in cinnamon mixture (Do not blend completely.) Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack; cool 5 minutes. In small bowl, combine powdered sugar and enough orange juice for desired consistency; mix until smooth. Drizzle over top of warm scones. Serve warm.

Snack time with Quaker!

She inhaled them in record time and couldn’t stop saying how “yummy” they were, little does she know they contain oatmeal. Of course I had to give them a try and I could see why she gobbled them up so quickly, they tasted just like cinnamon rolls and you couldn’t even tell that they had good for you foods like oatmeal and milk.

Another reason I tend to favor Quaker is because they like to give back to the community and right now they have their #BetterTogether campaign going on with the Kroger Co. Family of Stores and they’re donating $25,000 to feed families in need by donating to Feeding America! Of course you can show your support by tweeting a picture of you and your family enjoying your oatmeal + milk creation by including @Quaker and #BetterTogether in your tweet! Plus check out their pinterest page for some delicious oatmeal + milk recipes!
